Local publications offer political endorsements: Round two

Not to be outdone by CityCaucus.com, the Georgia Straight, the Vancouver Fire Department, the Vancouver Observer, provincial unions and the inappropriately loud gentlemen at the back of the bus... three more publications, including the Globe and Mail, offer up their municipal election endorsements in advance of Saturday’s election.

Instead of providing a comprehensive list of candidates to vote for, the Globe and Mail simply endorses the re-election of Gregor Robertson as mayor with a stronger NPA opposition on council

Spacing Vancouver, meanwhile, does indeed provide a list of who they think should win on Nov. 19. They even list their council choices in the order they are most preferred:

Mayor: Gregor Robertson

Top 10 council choices

  1. RJ Aquino (COPE)
  2. Geoff Meggs (Vision)
  3. Sandy Garossino (Ind)
  4. Andrea Reimer (Vision)
  5. Ellen Woodsworth (COPE)
  6. Adriane Carr (Green)
  7. Heather Deal (Vision)
  8. Kerry Jang (Vision)
  9. Tim Stevenson (Vision)
  10. George Affleck (NPA)

Another five for council

  1. Tim Louis (COPE)
  2. Nicole Benson (NSV)
  3. Sean Bickerton (NPA)
  4. Raymond Louie (Vision)
  5. Tony Tang (Vision)

The Mainlander has arguably the most “indie” endorsement list with only two Vision candidates and zero NPA representation.

Mayor: Helten, Randy (NSV)

Council

  • Woodsworth, Ellen (COPE)
  • Louis, Tim (COPE)
  • Gill, Lauren (R.I.C.H.)
  • Martin, Terry (NSV)
  • Spires, Aaron (R.I.C.H.)
  • Aquino, RJ (COPE)

Parks board

  • Brent Granby (COPE)
  • Donalda Greenwell-Baker (COPE)
  • Stuart Mackinnon (Green Party)
  • Jamie Lee Hamilton (Independent Democratic Electoral Alliance)

School board

  • Jane Bouey (COPE)
  • Patty Bacchus (Vision)
  • Allan Wong (COPE)
  • Ken Clement (Vision)
  • Al Blakey (COPE)

But do political endorsements really work if they come from anyone but Leonardo Dicaprio and Bruce Springsteen? The answer is mostly impossible to say.
