Tourism Vancouver debuts "world's first" destination music video

Tourism Vancouver has debuted what it calls “the world's first professionally produced destination film in music video format.”

The song comes from Watasun, a Vancouver-based two-piece whose sound could be equated to someone like a Ben Harper or Jack Johnson. Singer/guitarist Adam Bailie and percussionist Reid Hendry make up the duo that also stars in the video.

As you can see, the production value is there and the song is catchy if “urban beats with traditional folk sounds” is your thing. Still, I wonder if Vancouver's tourism agency ever considered trying to buy the rights to The Smugglers' 1992 music video for their hit, “Vancouver B.C.,” written by former 19-year-old Grant Lawrence.

"Well the sun don’t shine and the rain comes pouring down”

Maybe those lyrics didn't speak to Tourism Vancouver's mandate like Watasun's do.
